Book – Kabbalah and Anthroposophy

Updated: Apr 3

🇺🇸 English and 🇩🇪 German presentation:

This book has been written to help those who, studying these two great currents of the Western Mysteries, have asked themselves the question: what is the relationship between Kabbalah and Anthroposophy? The book is a preliminary answer to this question and clearly does not claim to be an exhaustive one. The book’s purpose is to help one pose the right questions. Let us make it clear straight away that this book is not an attempt to create a new “crossover” current: nothing could be further from the truth. Rather, we can consider this first attempt as a Kabbalah/Anthroposophy dictionary so that those who are about to study both streams can translate the terminology of the former into that of the latter, and vice versa, in order to arrive at greater mutual understanding among esotericists.

On the other hand, this book also counters the opinion that Kabbalah and Anthroposophy are profoundly different and, indeed, irreconcilable systems. Nothing could be further from the truth and it demonstrates that Rudolf Steiner himself, especially while he was in the early stages of elaborating his anthroposophically-oriented Spiritual Science, used to make reference precisely to Kabbalah.

We will also discover that it could be not be otherwise because throughout the entire history of Mankind esoteric knowledge has revealed itself gradually, changing its form yet remaining identical in essence. While it is true that only with Steiner esotericism became Spiritual Science or, rather, a Science of Initiation centred on the “I am”, it is equally true that this Spiritual Science can be directed according to different orientations: an anthroposophically-oriented Spiritual Science exists, as does a Kabbalistically-oriented one.

Rudolf Steiner himself found a name for this Kabbalistic approach: he called it Logosophy. Steiner, in fact, intended to complete Theosophy, published in 1904, with a further chapter on cosmic evolution based on the 10 Aristotelian categories which were the Greek equivalent of the Sefirot: an approach he called Logosophy, the Wisdom of the Logos. Steiner described these 10 categories as the Occult Script, the cosmic alphabet with which the Book of Nature is written, the same Liber M of the Rosicrucian Manifestos. This Occult Script was one of the major impulses of the Michael Age which began in 1879. Thus, what was initially supposed to be the last chapter of Theosophy would actually have been expanded into a volume, in all probability to be entitled Logosophy which, however, was never published.
